About the club
Seventeen years,
one standard.
Apex was founded by two strength coaches who were tired of gyms that sold memberships instead of results. That founding bias still runs the building.
Our story
We coach, therefore we exist
In 2009 we had six racks, one platform and a whiteboard. We wrote every member's programme by hand and tested it every six weeks. That loop — assess, program, measure, adjust — is still the entire business model.
Today forty coaches work the floor across four disciplines: strength, conditioning, rehabilitation and sport-specific preparation. Between them they hold twelve national coaching credentials, four physiotherapy degrees and two Olympic-team appointments.
We cap membership deliberately. A club only feels like a club when there is a rack free at 6pm and a coach who knows your name and your last set.

What we stand for
Four non-negotiables
Everyone who works here is hired against these, and reviewed against them.
Evidence over ego
Every programme decision traces back to a screen, a scan or a number on the bar. If the data says change it, we change it.
Coaching is the product
Equipment is table stakes. What members pay for is forty coaches who notice the third rep before it goes wrong.
Standards, not shortcuts
Immaculate floors at 4am, plates racked by weight, towels stocked. Detail is the culture, not the housekeeping.
Everyone belongs on this floor
National-platform lifters and first-week beginners train in the same room, on the same standard of respect.
Milestones
How we got here
2009
One room on East 6th
Marcus Vega opens a 1,400 sq ft barbell room with four racks, a chalk bowl and eleven founding members.
2013
Coaching becomes the model
The club stops selling floor access alone and moves entirely to programmed, coached memberships. Retention doubles inside a year.
2017
Congress Avenue opens
A 28,000 sq ft two-floor flagship replaces three smaller sites, bringing strength, conditioning and recovery under one roof.
2020
The recovery suite
Contrast plunge, infrared sauna and a physio-led mobility studio are added, with a clinical team hired to run them.
2023
Data on every bar
Velocity tracking and heart-rate telemetry sync to member profiles, making progress visible in real time on the floor display.
2026
5,000 strong
The club passes five thousand active members with 98% twelve-month retention — still from a single Austin address.
